Change Your Story…
The Therapeutic Process
What do most of us desire beneath it all? To feel good, whole and comfortable within ourselves and in the relationships around us. That state of peaceful being resides within all of us but often past traumas and challenging life experiences have shaped who we have become, influencing the story of who we now think we are. These beliefs often disconnect us from our true, best selves.
Trauma happens, and often feelings of shame result. Living our lives wishing bad events never happened leave us feeling powerless but through incorporating our past experiences in a way that does not debilitate, permits us to live with them, not ruled by them. Therapy is a unique opportunity to unpick and explore yourself, your struggles, thoughts and feelings in a relaxed, compassionate and confidential space with someone who has your best interest at heart.
Therapy with Anne
You have come to therapy to change something in your life, be it how you feel or your circumstances. If the desire to change is there then I am here to help you achieve your goals. My approach is warm, open and direct. There will be moments of challenge in order for you to reach deeper self awareness and growth. Existing perceptions will be questioned in order to facilitate change as together we will work to help you feel more connected and whole.
When clients shed unhelpful beliefs and behaviour patterns that have been holding them back what emerges is something precious, new and exciting. Through this process of self examination we can begin to move towards the warm embrace of self love and acceptance where life holds greater promise, joy and fulfilment. To put it simply, my job is to help you discover what you're capable of.
This is a rich journey that we’ll take one step at a time at a pace thats in harmony with who you are.
I work according to the Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct of the BACP (British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy), which includes regular supervision with a senior colleague and attending courses and further training to remain up to date with developments in the field.
About Me
I am a UK registered and qualified Psychotherapist. My education includes a CPCAB Diploma in Integrative Psychotherapeutic Counselling, Masters of Fine Arts Degree from the University of California, Irvine and a Bachelors degree (Hons) from the University of California, San Diego. I am a registered member of the British Association of Psychotherapy and Counselling, the BACP.
Working in an integrative, psychotherapeutic way, my approach combines Gestalt, Psychosynthesis, Psychodynamic, Person Centred and Compassion Focused Therapy modalities. I am also a couples therapist incorporating approaches from Juliette Grayson, Ellyn Bader and the Gottman Institute.
In addition to my therapeutic education, and art degrees, I have extensively studied ancient eastern Buddhist teachings including a prolonged monastic sojourn. The subsequent acceptance of what life brings, along with opening to what is possible, quietly informs my practice as a person and therapist.
I am an American expat born and raised in Florida, then California, where I completed high school, university and graduate school. I have lived in the United Kingdom for the past 21 years in both the London and Bath areas.
Prior to becoming a psychotherapist, I have been a contemporary artist and continue to create work. My struggles, appreciation and experience of the creative process has deepened my understanding of the human psyche which I incorporate in my psychotherapy sessions.
Alongside my private practice I volunteer at Wiltshire Mind
Each of us is made up of many internal parts—some working in harmony, while others exist in conflict. Many of these parts were shaped in early life, influenced by our unique experiences, beliefs, and emotional landscapes. Over time, they take on distinct roles, sometimes protecting us, and at other times limiting our growth.
In our work together, we explore these internal dynamics with curiosity and compassion. A key focus is often the inner critic—that relentless voice of self-doubt and judgment that can stifle creativity, hinder relationships, and block our sense of vitality. By identifying and understanding these parts, we uncover how they interact, the emotions they stir, and the ways they shape our perception of ourselves and the world around us.
Therapy offers a space to challenge limiting beliefs, reframe outdated narratives, and foster lasting change. Through supportive engagement and a commitment to self-exploration, you can cultivate greater inner harmony, self-acceptance, and the freedom to live with more authenticity and ease.
Individual Therapy
Working with Couples
Utilising an integrative approach to couples therapy, incorporating approaches from Juliette Grayson, Ellyn Bader and the Gottman Institute, enables me to provide the best service to couple clients. Each relationship has its unique challenges which require a toolbox full of skills and resources. With care for both parties, issues are openly explored and viewpoints challenged. Couples therapy is a proactive and incredibly productive opportunity to assess conflicts, examine communication patterns and to establish relationship goals moving forward. It is an opportunity to learn from the past while creating a new shared vision for the future.
My approach to couples therapy is direct, warm, bold and ever hopeful. Of course there is also laughter and tears, within this richly transformative experience.
Therapy for Creatives
Artists, musicians, actors, writers, and other creatives offer immeasurable value to our world. Art is vital to human expression however creative careers are far from easy. The process of creating art often requires accessing most sensitive and personal areas of your life, which can feel emotionally draining. You might have moments of block and feel you’re forcing yourself to come up with creative ideas when you’re uninspired, or you may stress about finding the next sale or performance to pay your bills. As rewarding as it can be to be a creative, many artists struggle with anxiety, depression, self-doubt, and other challenges. Therapy for creatives is an opportunity to overcome these issues and reach your full potential.
I hold a Masters of Fine Arts degree and have been a practicing artist for the past 40 years. My personal understanding of the complexities of producing art as well as navigating the commercial realm uniquely enables me to offer creatives deeper insight and empathy of the challenges they face.
